Many customers use only a small portion of the capabilities of the Venable Frequency Response Analyzer and related software. Listed below are the most common and not so common applications related to the Venable FRA System.

 

Feedback Loop Measurement Applications

Measure loop gain and phase shift versus frequency (called a Bode plot or transfer function) of any power supply feedback loop, providing numeric display of phase and gain margins.

Measure the transfer function of any piece of a power supply feedback loop (plant/modulator or compensation/feedback).

Synthesize a compensation network for an analog power supply feedback loop to achieve the exact bandwidth and phase margin required on the first try!

Generate Digital Coefficients for a compensator for the digital power supply feedback loop that achieves the exact bandwidth and phase margin required.

Create the predicted overall feedback loop by mathematically combining error amplifier model results and the plant measurement. Determine if the synthesized compensation meets the required bandwidth and phase margin. Then, add compensation to the power supply and measure the feedback loop. Overlay model and test results to quickly and easily determine if requirements are met. Tweak the compensator model until achieving the overall results required.
